Study content

The studies cover a standard period of four semesters. This includes the master thesis research, writing and defence in the fourth semester. Field research usually takes place inside a project of the study program network, an international agency or at potential employers.
The study course is divided in core and specialization modules. The core modules are in the field of human environmental sciences, environmental resources sciences, in management as well as in international cooperation.
In the specialization courses the student will learn about water resources management, go deep inside subjects like hydrology, water quality, water supply and sanitation, as well as subjects in relation to water resource planning and water economy. In modules teaching special tools and skills, the students will learn to apply Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and other software applications for water resources management.
The program will last 4 semesters and is equivalent to 120 ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System).

Field visits

Field visits play an important role as the exposure to real projects and to relevant institutions. This is of highest importance in order to meet the objectives of the master programme.

Team projects

In the team projects students will have the chance to apply the new knowledge received through out the basic or specialized modules to an interdisciplinary case study.
Each team has at least four participants. The participants should come from diverse technical or career backgrounds. The team projects should be related to real projects visited during the field trips or to projects suggested through other partners of the network.

Internships

All students are encouraged to do an internship between the second and third semester. Such internships are very important for students in various ways. They can have a “hands on” experience in their future working area, they can find partners for conducting their master thesis, they can build up their network and last but not least they can introduce themselves to potential employers.
The program staff will support the students in finding an appropriate internship.
